Wales Deaf Rugby are celebrating a cash injection of 3000 Euros from Deutsche Bahn (German Railways) following the success of the team’s communications manager, Geraint Morgan, at the 2013 DB Awards held in Berlin.

Geraint, Arriva Trains Wales’ community affairs manager, was shortlisted as a finalist following a nomination for his voluntary work with Wales Deaf by colleague Teleri Evans. Arriva is part of Deutsche Bahn AG, a leading worldwide provider of transport and logistics services.

His voluntary role as communications officer with the team includes promoting the team in the media, seeking sponsorship partnerships and managing the team’s e-communication activities.

Speaking following the awards, he said: “It’s a huge honour to be a finalist at these prestigious awards. I am fortunate to work with a great team of volunteers who provide fantastic support and give the players the opportunity to represent their country.”

He continued; “The financial contribution made by DB will help us deliver our community strategy, which involves visiting schools and offering deaf and hard of hearing children the opportunity to participate in rugby taster sessions.”
